1993 Fender Strat Plus

My Guitars

I’ve been working on some upgrades to my 1993 Fender Strat Plus. I’ve shielded the control cavity with copper foil, upgraded most of the electronics and tweaked the setup. It plays great now but it’s still a little too bright for my taste. It’s got the stock Lace Sensor Gold pickups in the neck and middle position and a Seymour Duncan Little ’59 in the bridge. I’ve done about all I can do with the electronics and I’m still getting ear piercing brightness from it. Chock it up to an Alder body I guess. I like the guitar but I’ve never played it that much due to this issue. I think I’m more of a Mahogany or Basswood kind of guy. I’m still going to put some time into it to try and make it more playable.

Making music again!

A long time ago (say about 15 years) I use to be something of a musician. Things changed and my Strat got pushed to the back of the closet, and the Marshall halfstack sat in an inaccessible corner collecting dust.

Well, since I updated the PME website with some old music scores I did a few years ago in FL Studio, my interest has been peaked again. I broke out the Strat and my Ibanez and did a little tuning. I still need a professional setup but they work for now. I dug the Marshall out of the corner and cleaned it up. It’s good to hear that wall thumping tone again. I spend a few days practicing and after getting my┬ácalluses back on my finger tips I discovered two important things.

1) It wasn’t as hard or as time consuming as I thought it would be to get back to the level I was at before as a guitarist.
2) I really never was that great of a guitarists to begin with.

So I’m back where I left off with a lot of room for improvement. The Marshall is back in the corner for now. That thing is a pain to drag out all the time. I just bought a Fender Super Champ XD to practice on. I’m eagerly awaiting it’s arrival. For anyone that might be interesting in this awesome little amp, which I intend to review once I play with it for a while, you can get a great deal at Guitar Center right now. They have a %15 off promotion for anything over $299 through July 4th. The Super Champ XD is $299.99 so the discount brings it to about $255. Nice!

So in conclusion, I’ll sum up by providing the intro line to one of the first songs I ever wrote.

“Here’s to all things started, and never finished!”
