Codebreaker Tools for the PS2

This is just some info and a video tutorial I put together on how to make custom Day 1 saves for the Playstation 2 Codebreaker.

The old forum is dead due to inactivity so here are the direct links to the files.

Pendrive.7z
Omniconvert

First of all we have the upgrade files to enable a Codebreaker to use custom Day 1 files. This has been tested by me on CB Version 8.0 and 9.2/9.3. This will not work on Version 10.x Codebreakers. To use the upgrade, all you have to do is extract the archive and paste the upgrade.bin file on the root of the pendrive you use for flashing Day 1 saves. The other file can install the upgrade directly to your memory card. I haven’t used it myself. I just leave upgrade.bin on my flash drive.

The next tool is Omniconvert. This utility can convert codes between various cheat devices. For example, if there is no code that does what you want for Codebreaker, but the code you want exists for Action Replay, you can load that code into Omniconvert and convert it to a Codebreaker code that will work on your device. More detailed info can be found on the developer’s website. The attached download is for version 1.1.0 Beta, the latest version at this time.

  1. Hi, I followed your instructions AFAIK but the cbc file doesn’t appear in my Day 1.

I did the upgrade using the cbs.
I kept the upgrade.bin in my usb
I inserted it before powering the ps2

    I have a CB 9.2

    The codes I was converting came frome here, http://w w w.neoseeker.c o m/forums/33180/t1644283-action-replay-max-code/

My Game is Pal and the codes are NTSC armax though I can’t yet get to that part of my testing since the codes won’t even load.

  2. I’ve heard from a few people now having said issues. I’m not certain but I believe it stems from the PAL device. I don’t have any way to test this though. I’m really not sure what to tell you since everything you are doing seems correct and I have no way to test the situation without access to PAL hardware. I would recommend that you search the forum at http://www.codemasters-project.net as there are many more codes available there for this game. This forum is where most of the old hackers for the original Codebreaker codes hang out now. There seem to be a few topics about conversion to PAL format as well. The international version of this game doesn’t seem to be as popular a version for the hackers for some reason though.

Also try loading this file. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9777076/MKSM.cbc
This is one I made myself and I’ve tested as working fine on two different machines and CB versions. If that one doesn’t work then I don’t think the problem is with the cbc file generation.

Sorry I couldn’t help more with this.

  3. hey i followed all the steps and kept on getting errors. and then a friend founf alot of .cbc files for most of the games i have. and i have been trying to extract the codes inside of it. and everyone says thats using cb2util will work. but when i use it i cant find the place for where the codes would be from. all i can do is drag a .cbc file to it and then it just does a quick flash of the codes in it and disappears. anyone know how to help me on this? if so contact my email at garrouttec@yahoo.com

    • It sounds like you are missing a master code. Each game needs a master code that “enables” all the other codes. This has to be at the top of the list. Can you tell me what game this is for and possibly post the list of code you are trying to convert?

    codebreaker v8+ for ps2

    • Okay, I think I’ve got it figured out. In my video I note that you need to set the input and output methods just in case since I was never sure if it was necessary. Evidently it is necessary. I was always working with RAW codes in the past. You are using codes from the Codetwink site, which are encrypted in the Codebreaker format. When I first tried it I got the same error as you. I first tried reformatting your file to make it Omniconvert friendly. (Copy and paste this to a text file if you want a cleaner layout.)

That should have worked but gave the same error.

Next I tried converting the enable code from Codebreaker 7+ encryption to Unencrypted Codebreaker format and the code did indeed change.

That means your solution is as follow.

Simply change the Input Method to Codebreaker Version 7+ (Common Key) and leave the output method to Unencrypted CodeBreaker. Everything else stays the same. This allowed me to save the CBC file with no complaints about the enable code.

If that doesn’t do it for you let me know and I’ll attach the CBC I made so you can see if it works for you.

      • Hey, I stumbled upon your page after CodeTwink’s Day1 library disappeared. I have tried several times to make a CBC following your tutorial. I even copy/pasted the codes for Destroy All Humans from above and set the input/output to the settings you suggested. When I pull up the Day 1 menu in CB 9.3, I don’t see anything in the list. Am I doing something wrong?

  5. Nevermind. I just learned that i cannot use the HDL patched Codebreaker ELF to load custom cbc files. I just popped my retail CB disc in, and they loaded just fine.

    • I have mine set where I can load directly to the Free McBoot card after selecting codes instead of auto loading a game. Then I can manually launch HDL with the codes active. It’s been so long since I made the card I don’t recall exactly how I set it up to do this but it’s in the Free McBoot settings configuration. I think my is set so when I use the card in slot 1 it loads the disc directly after CodeBreaker, but in slot 2 it loads the card directory. The only problem I have with using this with HDL is that it always saves my codes to the HDD instead of the memory card so I have to remove the HDD before saving the codes to make them save to the card.
